Riverboat casino revenue in Louisiana was up four percent in January over the same period last year, thanks to good months for casinos in the Lake Charles and Shreveport areas.
Both New Orleans and Baton Rouge saw drops in their own casino revenue this January when compared to last January, according to a report given to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board Wednesday (Feb. 20).
New Orleans:
Despite growth across the state, New Orleans three riverboat casinos earned nearly nine percent less this January than they did during that month in 2013. Harrah’s in New Orleans, the state’s only land-based casino, earned essentially the same amount of revenue this January as it did last January.
All three New Orleans riverboat casinos saw a drop in revenue when comparing January 2014 and January 2013, but those at Boomtown and Treasure Chest were much larger at around 10 percent. Amelia Belle, the smallest of the casinos, saw only a 3 percent drop overall.
Baton Rouge:
Baton Rouge casinos earned two percent less in January 2014 than they did in January 2013, despite revenue growth at two of the three riverboats.
Both the Belle of Baton Rouge and L’Auberge Casino and Hotel saw an increase in their earnings in January 2014, but that couldn’t make up for the significant drop off in revenue — around 19 percent — at Hollywood Baton Rouge. L’Auberge is the biggest money-maker of the three, bringing in almost $11 million of the $22 million in Baton Rouge casino revenue last month.
