Blackbird Bend Casino Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

ONAWA, IA —
A grand re-opening ceremony was held today for a Siouxland casino that’s been rebuilding since the flood of 2011.

The Blackbird Bend Casino near Onawa, Iowa opened its doors to a new main floor. It replaces a smaller venue that’s been in operation for the past year.

Once known as «Casino Omaha», the new structure boasts 350 slot machines, 8 tables, a new restaurant, and stage for free, live entertainment. The new facility added 140 new jobs to the community as well.

«This is an historic event for the Omaha people because the casino really is an economic engine. It provides funds for housing and education and healthcare. So it’s real great to be able to employ people again and give back to the tribal community,» said Blackbird Bend CEO Kurt Schmidt.

The casino plans to continue expanding. Future venues will include a Bingo Hall this spring, and the re-opening of the Blackbird Bend Speedway.
