$40 Million Streak Gambler Sees His Luck Run Out

Archie Karas Arrested After Winning $8,000 at Blackjack in California Casino
The man who had the longest winning streak in gambling history has been arrested. Archie Karas, whose exploits between December 1992 and early 1995 are known as The Run, was visited by Nevada gaming agents who arrested him for marking cards in a Californian casino. This casino gambling news isn’t a surprise, really, considering Karas has been arrested on four other occasions.

Archie Karas made his first massive fortune back in that early ‘90’s run, as he turned $50 into an incredible $40 Million! After cleaning up at poker, he turned his attention elsewhere, though, winning some more before his casino strategy failed big time and he lost the whole fortune!

Yet it was with the Barona Casino blackjack cards where his downfall was really met. Karas has been arrested for marking the blackjack cards to win $8,000 off the California casino, before security footage caught him. It seems a bit strange to cheat for such a comparatively small amount, but security experts say it is obvious.

Karas – real name Anagyros Karabourniotis – may have never won a World Series of Poker bracelet, but he’s sure won a ton of cash. The closest he came was finishing 5th in the 2009 $10,000 2-7 lowball event, pocketing $53,783 in the process.

Now 62, the Greek gambler could find himself in prison for up to 3 years should he be found guilty. He is being charged with burglary and winning by way of fraud, and has been “extradited” to San Diego.
