Online gaming excites Borgata in Atlantic City

Online poker and gaming continues to open up and expand to more markets.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City announced it has been authorized by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to offer real-money online gaming to the general public in the state of New Jersey.
Following an initial trial period, two Borgata-branded gaming sites – www.BorgataCasino.com and www.BorgataPoker.com – have been approved by the Division of Gaming Enforcement to accept wagers from the general public in the state of New Jersey.
Borgata’s online gaming partner, bwin.party digital entertainment plc, has also been authorized to launch two Party-branded sites – nj.partypoker.com and nj.partypoker.com/casino.
“Today is an exciting milestone for Borgata, and we thank the Division of Gaming Enforcement, our partners at bwin.party and our New Jersey team for their tireless efforts and outstanding work,” said Tom Ballance, president and chief operating officer of Borgata.
He added: “In the coming days, we will continue to enhance our product, as we create a first-in-class online experience that is consistent with the Borgata brand.”
The World Series of Poker (WSOP), in partnership with Australia’s Crown Melbourne, has modified the tournament dates for the second WSOP Asia-Pacific. The expected tourney is slated for Oct. 1-17, 2014, at Crown Melbourne and will feature ten WSOP gold bracelet events.
“We are excited to return to Melbourne in 2014 for WSOP APAC and the beginning of a new era for our international” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “The WSOP standard is bigger, better and different. Moving to a rotational approach, with one international event per year allows for better organization and more marketing in each region.
“We also want to do right by the players, and provide more value for their travel dollar,” Stewart added. “There is a glut of poker tournaments around the world, and our vision is to each year put on a single global showcase that can’t be missed.”
WSOP Europe will return to the schedule in 2015 and be organized in odd-years. Therefore, the decision was made to move the Australian event to October, which is springtime in Melbourne.
The date change also allows Crown Melbourne more time to organize satellites and promotions, with 150 runners already guaranteed to qualify for the $10,000 Main Event alone.
The inaugural event was contested last April and featured five official events with Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu, among others, winning WSOP gold bracelets. The WSOP APAC officially moves to an even year calendar schedule with an event in 2014, followed by the next one in 2016.
The 2014 event will include television production coverage to be aired globally. Announcement of the complete schedule and dates is expected in early 2014.
