N.H. legislation will permit casinos to have 5,000 slots

A committee considering language to regulate casinos in New Hampshire indicated last week a draft of proposed legislation would permit casinos to have up to 5,000 slot machines.
The N.H. Gaming Regulatory Oversight Authority, created by Gov. Maggie Hassan to come up with a plan to guide lawmakers next year in their approach to expanding gambling, said its recommendation will include such things as the number of permitted slot machines, the tax rate and the number of locations.
The recommendation must be submitted by Dec. 15.
Meanwhile, Millennium Gaming, the company owned by two Las Vegans – Bill Wortman and Bill Paulos – continues to sit in an enviable position with an option to acquire the defunct racetrack, Rockingham Park, in Salem.
The casino executives indicated they are prepared to spend as much as $600 million in developing the casino property and permit New Hampshire to offer an alternative to Massachusetts where as many as three casinos are being considered.
