Man charged with cheating at Horseshoe Casino with card counter hidden in pocket

CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office indicted a man after casino workers said he was caught cheating on camera during a game of blackjack.

Steven J. Harvey, 57, was indicted Thursday on one count of gambling.

Casino Commission agents reported they had arrested Harvey after noticing he had a device in his pants pockets and appeared to be pushing buttons.

The incident happened on Jan. 20 at the Horseshoe Casino in Downtown Cleveland.

Officials from the prosecutor’s office said the agents had been contacted by a casino manager who observed Harvey on surveillance and thought he had some kind of card counting device.

State officials said counting cards with a device has been illegal prior to the casinos opening in Ohio.

Harvey has been scheduled to be arraigned in court on March 6.
