Caribbean biggest casino
A $3.4 billion mega resort boasting the largest casino in the Caribbean is being built in the Bahamas.
Known as Bahar Mar, the new resort spans 1000 acres on Nassau’s Cable Beach, and developers hope it will rival Las Vegas and Orlando as a must-visit destination.
As well as the biggest casino in the Caribbean, Bahar Mar will house six hotels with almost 2250 rooms, a golf course, retail village and the largest convention centre in the Bahamas.
Already onboard are Sheraton Hotels, Wyndham Hotels, Rosewood Luxury Hotels and Resorts, Grand Hyatt Convention Hotels and Morgan’s Lifestyle Hotels.
There will also be a hotel built in the casino, which is expected to house 1000 rooms.
The megaresort is being financed and built by various companies in Beijing in a new partnership struck between Chinese and Bahamian dignitaries.
Aimed at the North American market, it is expected that it will raise domestic product revenue in the Bahamas by 10 per cent, and create 8000 extra jobs once it’s opened.
Sarkis Izmirlian, Baha Mar’s CEO, said that Bahar Mar «will deliver an authentic Caribbean experience which combines the essence and spirit of The Bahamas with the distinction of luxury resorts.
